Seeds and Threads, upcoming documentary film, is showing our support for Fashion Revolution with this short video to help spread the word and encourage the public to be curious and start questioning the fashion industry. Where are they? While we have made good progress to date, there are still improvements to be made and we will be the first to tell you that we have more work to do with the factories we partner with. Who makes them?
Two documentaries were screened– Unravel and The True Cost – revealing the dangerous and disgraceful working conditions in factories pumping out cheap clothing for Western consumers. Who made my clothes? VIFF Presents ‘Traceable’ and ‘Handmade With Love in France’. Fashion Revolution! The first clothes were made from natural elements: animal skin, fur, grass, leaves, bone, and shells. Garments were often draped or tied ; however, simple needles made out of animal bone provide evidence of sewn leather and fur garments from at least 30,000 years ago.
What is the story behind them and what is the price we are actually paying when we purchase a $5 t-shirt. 2016 participants at RISD (including President Rosanne Somerson 76 ID) wore up-cycled shirts bearing the Who Made My Clothes?
It’s all about clothes, clothes and more clothes. Filmed in countries all over the world, from the brightest runways to the darkest slums, and featuring interviews with the world’s leading influencers including Stella McCartney, Livia Firth and Vandana Shiva, The True Cost is an unprecedented project that invites us on an eye opening journey around the world and into the lives of the many people and places behind our clothes. What has struck us during this work is the disconnect between the customers who buy our clothes and the people who make them. For the Newsbeat documentary My Tumour Made Me Trendy, I got to meet Adam Pearson - who also has the condition.
