The Milky Way is approximately 890 billion times the mass of the Sun. From "Galaxy Size Comparison Chart" by Rhys Taylor. Milky Way Galaxy (sometimes simply called the Galaxy), large spiral system of about several hundred billion stars, one of which is the Sun. Think the Milky Way is …

Our Sun (a star) and all the planets around it are part of a galaxy known as the Milky Way Galaxy.

It takes its name from the Milky Way, the irregular luminous band of stars and gas clouds that stretches across the sky as seen from Earth. The M100 galaxy, which is about 60 percent larger than the Milky Way, next to the M97 galaxy. Here it is seen with several Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Arra (ALMA) antenna.

It is estimated to contain at least 200 billion stars and possibly up to 400 billion stars.

The band of the Milky Way galaxy can be seen at night in areas with dark skies. The Milky Way is the second-largest galaxy in the Local Group, with its stellar disk approximately 100,000 ly (30 kpc) in diameter and, on average, approximately 1,000 ly (0.3 kpc) thick. The stellar disk of the Milky Way Galaxy is approximately 100,000 light-years (9×10 17 km) in diameter, and is considered to be, on average, about 1000 light years thick..
