There are lots of great reasons for wanting a California real estate license, and with how relatively inexpensive it can be to get licensed, it’s nearly always worth it.
What’s required to get your California real estate license?
In California, just like every other state, if you want to make money in real estate, you have to get licensed.
Aside from some of the basic requirements, such as age or criminal background, each state generally requires that you complete a certain amount of training or “classroom hours” prior to taking your exam and getting your realtor license.
For example, Michigan requires the least amount of pre-license classroom hours with 40 while Texas requires the most at 210. Other states will vary in the number of required hours somewhere in between these two.
California’s classroom hour requirements are 135. (There are more specific details about California’s real estate license requirements below)
Now, be sure to keep in mind that while you do have to complete these required “classroom hours” to get your real estate license, you don’t actually have to attend a school or even have to leave your house.
The State of California allows you to take home study courses that you can complete in your free time and at a pace that works best for you and your current schedule.
But, please be aware, not all courses are created equal.
You can’t just go out and purchase a “one size fits all” course and hope that the state of California will approve it. You have to get one that is pre-approved by California and one that meets all of their specific requirements.
Furthermore, there are many courses that may be pre-approved by the State of California, but still fall short in effectiveness of training. Remember, even though you may complete your pre-license training hours, that doesn’t mean that you’ll pass the State of California’s final licensing exam. If you’re poorly trained through ineffective courses, you won’t do well on your exam.
So, take the time and spend the money to get a good training course. Better yet, get one that guarantees that after you complete you’re training, that you’ll pass your test the first time.
Good training courses usually run any where from $100 – $500 and they are priced according to applicable requirements. If you live in a state that requires more hours, then you can expect to pay a little more. The good news is, you can get one of the best home study courses available in California for around $100 – $200. I’ll show you where and how in the email below.
